Colourful, high-level aspirations – I’m wondering if the arguments might be animated by adding a discussion point: how do we articulate them at a lower level, to motivate the people **in** this New Model Army? To stay – to join, even – to see the higher purpose as attainable?

Climate change is not, has never been, and will never be a primary driver of international conflict and framing illegal immigration as a purely humanitarian crisis ignores the crimanal reality apparent in every boatload of fit young men who make the trip.

An excellent read and thoughtful critique of the deeply conventional thinking that underpins the Integrated Review, and some considered alternatives, from a writer within the British Armed Forces.
Kudos to @wavellroom for encouraging rethinking defence and security.

The problem with this essay is that it largely ignores the fact that there are multiple real threats, and the armed forces it sets out would be entirely unable to deter (let alone defeat) any of them.
